Calendar of Recreational Activities
January - June 2010

For some time now we, at the Society have had two dominant recreation groups. These groups have been the ”Older” and the ”Younger” Recreation groups. Even though there is no intended age segregation between the two, the names are suggestive and perhaps keep clients from attending one or the other due to their age. As a result, we have renamed each group with a more descriptive title- a title emphasizing what we find to be the most important aspects of each group and steering away from any age qualifier. We hope these new names will help eliminate any confusion that may currently exist.

Common Ground Recreation Group

Common Ground is the new name for what used to be the ”Older Adult Recreation Group. We feel that instead of projecting the importance of age, we wish to stress how each member shares a common situation with the rest of the group. The fact that you are not alone in your vision loss can help you in the way you perceive your own circumstances. So now we welcome adults of any age to join our Tuesday recreation group. We hope you will drop in.

The Visually Impaired Exploration Wednesday Group

”VIEW”, The new name for what was previously the ”Younger Adult Recreation Group” describes more exactly what we do in the group and what someone can expect when attending. The group takes trips to see selected sites or favorite St Louis landmarks. There is quite a bit of walking at times. It requires one to be in shape enough to participate - Other than that there is no age limitation.
