As I prepare to take a vacation to another country I was reminded how we make some everyday things more difficult for people who are blind or severally visually impaired. When I picked up the foreign currency it struck me that the four denominations of bills I received for my trip were all different colors and different sizes, unlike US currency which is all green and the same size.
If I were blind or severely visually impaired in the country I am traveling to, I would likely be able to identify my money completely independently! Being blind or severely visually impaired in the US means needing help, and perhaps being cheated when given dollar change back for purchases. Isn’t it time for the US to catch up with the rest of the world in making all currency easier for everyone to use independently?
