Configuring Windows VISTA for screen readers – classic view


Configuring the Start Menu and Taskbar

1)      Press windows key M for the desktop and tab to the start button

2)      Press the application key and arrow up to properties

3)      Arrow down to radio button that reads classic start menu

4)      Tab to the customize button and press the spacebar

5)      Tab to Advanced Start Menu Options

6)      Arrow down to Use personalized menus and uncheck the option with the spacebar and press enter

7)      Tab to the apply button and press spacebar and press enter

8)      These steps may not be exact if any configuration has already been made

Configuring My Computer and Windows Explorer to display a list

1)      Press alt V for the view menu

2)      Arrow down to details and press enter

3)      Arrow down to the C:drive or whatever your hard drive letter is and press enter

4)      Press alt V for the view menu

5)      Arrow down to details and press enter

6)      Press alt T to open the tools menu

7)      Arrow down to folder options and press enter

8)      Arrow down to use windows classic folders radio button

9)      Press control tab to the view page tab

10)   Press the spacebar on the apply to all folders button

11)   Press the spacebar on the yes button

12)   Tab to the apply button and press spacebar

13)   Tab to the OK button and press spacebar

14)   Press alt F4 to exit

 

*NOTE: these steps should change all folders but you still may need to adjust the view to details in other folders.
