EXPLANATION:
This lesson involves
creating a rule. Since there are many different rules and alerts that you could
create this will focus on creating one rule. To begin creating a rule press alt
t for the tools menu and arrow to message rules, open that submenu and press
enter on Mail…. A “New Mail Rule” dialogue box opens and the focus is on the
condition “Where the From line contains people”. Place
a check in that box with the space bar. To hear other conditions use the up and
down arrow keys. Next tab once to the action that condition
should take. The focus is on “Move it to the specified folder”. Place a
check in that box with the spacebar. To hear other actions use the up and down
arrow keys. Next tab again and you will edit the rule description. Arrow down
to the condition you need to edit, in this case it says ‘where the from line contains people’ because that is what you
selected in the first step. Press enter on that condition. This opens the “Select
People” dialogue box where you can type in the person’s name or choose one from
the contacts list. For the purpose of this lesson type in the name john, tab to
the add button and press space bar, tab to the ok button and press the space
bar. Now the rule description says ‘where the from
line contains john’ instead of ‘where the from line contains people’. Arrow to ‘move it to the specified folder’ and press enter. The
“Move” dialogue box opens and you need to navigate to the folder you want like
a tree view. If you want to create a new folder you can tab to the new folder
button to create a new folder. Once you have chosen the folder the rule
description says ‘move it to the sample folder’ instead of ‘move it to the specified
folder’. Tab again and you can name this rule. Let’s name it class rule and
press enter. Now there is a rule called ‘class rule’ in the list of message
rules in the “Message rules” dialogue box. Tab to the ok button and press the
space bar. Now any messages from john will automatically go into the sample
folder.
