EXPLANATION:
PDF stands for
Portable Document Format and Adobe Reader is the program that can open PDF’s.
If you don’t have Adobe Reader you can’t read a PDF. Adobe Reader is free and
can be downloaded from the Internet. A PDF document is another way to display
information on the Internet. We will be looking at a PDF on the SLSBVI web
site. The first time you open a PDF, the Accessibility Setup Assistant will need
to be configured. The Accessibility Setup Assistant presents screens in which
the appropriate options need to be chosen.
A search engine is
used to find information on the Internet. There are different types of search
engines. Google is a very popular and well known search engine. Other examples
are Yahoo, Alta Vista, Dog Pile and there are many
others. We will be using Google. Google presents a text box for you to type in
a search word or words. Once you type in a word you can press enter and Google
will present you with links to websites that contain the word or words you are
looking for. You would then determine which link leads to the best website that
best relates to your search.
