LIST VIEW

 

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS:

FOLDER VIEW LIST VIEW: in Windows Explorer, it is a list of folders or files in a column

 

KEYS YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW:

Windows: f6, shift f6

Jaws: no new commands

 

EXPLANATION:

The folder view list view in Windows Explorer is a list of items in a folder of the tree view. These two different areas are in separate windows panes. The left window pane has the tree view and the right window pane has the folder view list view. You move between these two panes with shift f6 and f6. If you are in the tree view you can press f6 to go to the folder view list view. If you are in the folder view list view you can press shift f6 to go to the tree view. When a folder in the tree view has focus, pressing enter will generate a list of the folders’ items in the list view. For example, if focus was on the computer folder of the tree view, the items in that folder would not be listed in the folder view list view until you pressed enter.

 

ACTIVITIES:

1)     Open Windows Explorer

2)     You are in the folder view list view

3)     Use the up and down arrow keys to the top and bottom of the list and listen to what the screen reader says

4)     Press shift f6 till you are at the tree view

5)     Arrow up to the desktop folder

6)     Press f6 till you are at the folder view list view and read those contents again using the up and down arrow keys (they should be the same)

7)     Press shift f6 till you are at the tree view

8)     Press enter on the desktop folder

9)     Press f6 till you are at the folder view list view and listen to the items with the up and down arrow keys

10)  The items should be quite different now
