EXPLANATION:
Editing a document
involves adding, erasing, copying, moving and pasting text. To add text you
simply type. Characters will appear where the cursor is and the cursor moves to
the right and waits for the next character. Erasing by character is done in two
ways; using the backspace key and the delete key. Picture the word boat in your
head. Now picture the cursor between the letter o and the letter a. Pressing
backspace will erase the letter o and you’ll have bat, but pressing delete will
erase the letter a and you’ll have bot. The screen reader will read the
character that you erase when using backspace. However, the screen reader will
not read the character you erase when using the delete key; it will read the
current character. If there is doubt as to what is still there, have JAWS spell
the word with insert num pad 5 pressed twice quickly. You could also read the
current character (num pad 5). Selecting text involves using the shift key,
such as shift right or left arrow selects by character, shift insert right or
left arrow selects by word, shift end selects from the cursor to the end of the
line.... Control a selects all text. JAWS can read what you have selected using
the command shift insert down arrow. Control c copies text and places it on the
clipboard. Control x cuts text (it will be gone from that spot) and places it
on the clipboard. Control v pastes text to wherever the cursor is.
